Our Principles

We are proud to run an unapologetically pro-Black, pro-queer, pro-justice, pro-accountability, people-powered campaign. We know when we root our vision for transformation in the experiences of folks on the margins, everyone benefits. To that end, there are several core principles that drive our campaign:

  • Lead with love: Our campaign was built on a deep love for New York City and our Brooklyn community - its residents, its history, its resilience, and its promise. We will run a campaign that is unabashedly rooted in love.

  • The people closest to the pain should be closest to the power: We borrow the words of Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley to ensure that our decisions are made in close relationship with those who have experienced the most harm. Members of our community are the experts of their own experiences.

  • Equity and transparency on our team: Building and running a campaign infrastructure that speaks to our values is an intentional process. From salary transparency to our campaign budget and more, we will hold ourselves to equitable, transparent decision-making across our team.

  • No real estate, corporate, or law enforcement influence: We are not taking any money from for-profit real estate developers, corporations or their PACs, nor are we seeking support from the coffers of law enforcement. If a donation is made from an individual who has interests inconsistent with this commitment, their donation will be refunded. Period.

Living our principles is a practice - we will work throughout this campaign to run an operation that we are proud to be part of. When we make errors, we will work to make amends and repair harm, knowing that rebuilding trust is a process.
